one extra day! Thursday is a Stud and a Dud.
Every Thursday I'll be highlight a baking tool, pan, or utensil that I think is great and another that exists to take up place in my storage.
Stud
Scoops
I love my Scoops. Three sizes and they're perfect. The largest size makes for a perfect cupcake size. The medium makes for a perfect sized cookie. The smallest has been used to to fill cupcakes and make very small cookies. I started with the medium and was finding it so useful I ordered the other two sizes. Thanks to Amazon, I know that I bought these in July 2013 so they've been useful for awhile.
They are perfect for ensuring your portion sizes are even so that you bake things evenly. I would assume that if you're making any food item that needs to be proportioned out for cooking like Crabcakes the scoops can come in handy. You can also use the large one for ice cream.
I have OXO Good Grips, it has a squeeze handle and a scraper on the inside. I've seen versions with no scraper and I think they'd require a spoon or knife to get some batters out so if you're purchasing get one with an inside scraper.
Dud
Doughnut Baking Pan
If you sincerely desire the ability to make donuts at home that taste like cake then yes you should buy this pan. I apparently decided to do it once and whatever I made wasn't good enough for me to repeat it in the 3- 4 years since, but I still have this pan.
If I want a doughnut, I want a Shipleys in Texas, Krispy Kreme, or Sugar Shack in Alexandria. I want it yeasty and fried and maybe with gourmet toppings or a meat kolache on the side. Apparently I didn't think of those things when I bought this pan.
Also, in all the times I've asked someone what they wanted me to bake, no one's said "a cake doughnut".

It's a one-trick pony pan. If anyone has innovative ideas for how to use this pan, please post in the comments. If you're my friend and you want it, let me know!
